As you may know, Olga and I got Roxy first, then after we had to leave her alone in the apartment, we decided to get another pug so they wouldn't be lonely. This was the first sign of any defects.
When we first got Lucy as a puppy she had a minor parasite called coccsidia (i think). The breeder told us about it and we were like, whoa, hold on there! So we waited an extra week or two so before picking her up so the breeder could nurse her back to perfect health.
Well, guess what? She was in perfect health, but still was able to give it to our other pug, Roxy.
One night a week or so after we got Lucy, Olga woke me up telling me that Roxy was acting crazy and rubbing her face in the sheets and stuff. I was tired so I was like, whatever, she's a dog and dogs do weird shit. Olga was concerned and turned on the lights. HOLY SHIT! My dog Roxy had an allergic reaction going in full effect. Her face and skin were swelling up all over the place. It was pretty scary. I didn't realize the little dog could swell up that much.
Of course we panic. We call the vet and set up an appointment for the next morning. What I forgot to tell you was that previously, Lucy's eye had some eye gunk in it and seemed to be blinking a little bit more than normal that we totally ignored b/c that stuff happens to dogs. Well, what happens when we go to the vet? Lucy has an eye ulcer on top of Roxy's craziness. (Some of you may be wondering, "wait isn't Roxy the one with the crazy eye?" Yes she is but Lucy gave us a little taste of the experience a few years early.)
Whats going on right now? I have one dog with some weird parasite that she's allergic to and another one with an eye problem. The funny thing was that Roxy had the reactions to the parasite right after she took a dump. I talked to a doctor friend and they said that can happen b/c the intestine lining and stuff. Okay that's gross, but still pretty funny in hindsight. We take care of Roxy with some anti parasite crap and half pills of benadryl. She's fine in a few days, but still has some random allergies every once in a while, but her food now is pretty good and has been clear for a while.
Lucy on the other hand had to get eye drops every few hours. Maybe every 2 or 4 hours? I can't remember. All I remember was that the eye drops cost $50. Hah! I thought that was expensive! Okay, later posts on that issue. Anyways, so I have these expensive dog eye drops prescribed by the vet and picked up from the real pharmacy. Luckily Olga's is a substitute teacher at this time so she has time to give Lucy her drops and can give her the care she needs.
So we get through one day of drops, things are looking a little bit better. What happens? Roxy thinks that $50 eye drops would make a tasty snack! DAMNIT!!! So I have to go to the pharmacy again, well probably Olga, but still!!!
Lucy and Roxy recover 100%, but this is the first experience with defective dogs.
